Time Management Tips

Being able to effectively manage your time will make all the difference as you build a business. There is so much to do when you are just getting started. Having the peace of mind in knowing that you can complete all of your goals in a more relaxed and timely manner will make it possible for you to achieve more in less time.

There are several steps in the process of using time management to your benefit. These steps include taking a closer look at where your time is spent currently, deciding exactly what you wish to accomplish with the time you will have, and making the decision to delegate some of the activities that do not make sense for you right now.

Write down everything you are doing each hour you are awake. For example, if you get up at seven in the morning, make a list of your activities from seven to eight, from eight to nine, and so on. This will definitely be an eye opener when you realize where your time is going. There are simple things you can do to reclaim your time, such as only checking your email at specified times of the day, setting a timer when visiting social networking sites, and combining errands so that you don’t drive in circles during the day.

The next step is to make a list of what you are hoping to accomplish with the extra time you will now have. Most likely you had a reason for wanting to manage your time more effectively at this point in your life, so write those reasons down. When I wanted to learn how to speak a new language I decided to ‘find’ the extra five hours a week I would need in order to study and practice. Your reasons are important to you, and having a visual reminder you can see each day works very well. Post your reasons somewhere you will be able to see them every day.

The final step is to delegate some of the tasks and activities you do on a regular basis to others. We all outsource something in our daily lives, such as yard work, haircuts, or car repairs. Make a list of anything you are doing right now that would be better off completed by someone else. Once I started this in my own life I freed up so much time. These are the steps you need to start taking in order to manage your time more effectively and reach for success.
